Genome Mining Coupled with OSMAC-Based Cultivation Reveal Differential Production of Surugamide A by the Marine Sponge Isolate Streptomyces sp. SM17 When Compared to Its Terrestrial Relative S. albidoflavus J1074

See the recent publication from Alan Dobson's group at University College Cork as part of the National Marine Biodiscovery project. This paper describes the genome mining and cultivation, as well as a metabolomic analysis of a Streptomyces sp. isolated from a marine sponge and a terrestrial derived S. albidoflavus to investigate the biosynthesis and production of the known metabolite, Surugamide A. This resulted in the identification of factors involved in a differential production of Surugamide A between the marine and terrestrial Streptomyces sp.
